Zedbed Nature

At Zedbed, the environment and customer expectations are equally important. We know our customers are paying to receive legendary Zedbed comfort, performance, and durability, and maintaining our ability to deliver those qualities is as important as safeguarding the environment. Our goal therefore is to ensure that we always maintain the right balance between eco-friendly components and high quality standards to, continually ensure that along with our suppliers, we have the smallest possible environmental footprints.

We do that by sourcing most of our primary materials locally, thereby supporting job creation and our regional economy, and substantially reducing transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions. Find out how Zedbed leads the way environmentally in comparison to our competitors.

Memory foams—made by Zedbed

Zedbed is one of just three North American sleep product companies to produce its own pressure relief materials. Other mattress manufacturers import low-cost, "generic" memory foam from various makers. We produce Zedbed foam in our own plant in Shawinigan, Quebec, a short distance from our assembly facilities.

  • Zedbed uses fewer wood pallets, less packaging, and no boats or airplanes in our manufacturing process. That means we're lowering CO2 emissions and producing a finished product that's much greener.

Unlike materials that are fabricated using 100% hydrocarbons, our ZX, R2, and PURE materials contain a significant percentage of soybean oil. No other company uses more soy in its memory foams—or achieves as much density—as Zedbed. We have replaced as much hydrocarbon as possible with soybean oil, without impacting the quality and durability of our foams.

  • Formulated with a water base, our foams give off minimal amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can affect health.

Our latex supplier has received Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certification. The substances used to produce its latex have been analyzed and found safe for human health. This supplier has been praised for its natural latex, which is what we use in Zedbed mattresses.

This supplier has also received EuroLATEX ECO-Standard certification. These tests were developed and defined to set the minimum amount of substances considered dangerous or harmful to health.

Substances tested:

  • Metals
  • Nitrosamines
  • Pesticides
  • Solvents
  • VOCs

All natural latex used in Zedbed mattresses complies with EuroLatex ECO-Standards.

Zedbed exclusively uses water-based glue. All our mattresses feature glue that has been certified safe for the environment by the Greenguard Environmental Institute. And our gluing system is gravity driven, meaning the adhesive descends naturally without requiring electricity.

Our glue supplier was considered "environmentally responsible" long before the term became popular, and was the first company in its field to offer an exclusive line of eco-friendly adhesives. Its products are formaldehyde-free and comply with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) regulations. What's more, this company uses food coloring in all its products instead of chemical color additives. Using its products has helped to slash Zedbed's glue and energy consumption.

We make most of our Zedbed foundations using wood from forests that have been identified and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Our knit fabrics are all made in Montreal, less than 150 km from our plant, which lets us reduce transportation expense and limit CO2 emissions. At your Zedbed retailer you'll find products featuring bamboo rayon, organic cotton, or recycled polyester fabrics.
