Historical
The beginning
April 5, 1994, Literies Champlain is born in Canada, incorporated as a company specialized primarily in the manufacture of mattresses and box springs.At that time, the three Gelinas brothers wanted to redirect their careers. Their first steps in the sleep industry is reflected by the relentlessness and surpassing ambition. One of the brothers manufactured the mattresses and box factory, one was selling mattresses in the showroom at the front of the factory and the other was moving in different shopping centers for sale directly to customers the products Literies Champlain.
The advent of adjustable bed
In 1995, the brothers Gelinas introduce the bed adjustable positions (electrical) to their existing range of products. At that time, few companies offering this type of bed while demand grew. That debalancement between supply and demand creates an opportunity for Litteries Champlain to distribute adjustable beds and earn big market share.
Research and Development
The booming market for adjustable beds take the three contractors to develop their own line of adjustable beds rather than simply be the role of distributor. Over the years, at major trade fairs for furniture, the brothers meet various suppliers in Europe and North America to get their hands on quality parts necessary for assembly of a premium double-position adjustable bed. The components used allow the company to obtain the certifications CSA and CSA U.S., meeting the legal requirements.
The Literies Champlain launch their adjustable bed collection in the early 2000s under the trademark Zedbed.
From Literies Champlain to Zedbed Corporation Int'l Inc.
In 2002, Literies Champlain change its company name to Corporation Zedbed International Inc. This decision aims to enable customers to more easily associate the product's manufacturer.
The end of the springs, the beginning of a new era!
Also in 2002, Zedbed Corporation launches a new collection of mattresses made of memory foam Zedpur, a pressure relief material exclusive to the company. This initiative marks the end of the manufacture of spring mattresses, a bold decision but at the vanguard of the market. By opting for the manufacture of a mattress made with ZedPur, we adapt to the demands of our mattresses for the adjustable beds (better flexibility) and the needs of users in terms of relaxation, wellness and sustainability body. Wishing to meet the demand for Zedpur mattresses, the founders decided to launch also a first box springs collection. Sales of the company are not long to triple. The company is then recognized in the North American market as a leader in its field.
The manufacture of our pressures relief materials and pillows
In collaboration with our engineers, Zedbed managed to develop its own facilities and an innovative manufacturing process for making each individual block of memory foam and also to better control the quality of its raw materials.
It is more precisely in 2004 that this process has enabled Zedbed to create within its Quebec walls his material Zedpur pressure relief and begin the production of pillows with the same material. The collection of pillows included the brands Paris, Euro and the popular Mirage.
The greening of Zedbed
In 2006, aware and concerned about environmental issues, the management team starts the challenge of improving the pressure relief material Zedpur to eliminate some of the hydrocarbon needed to manufacture the memory foam. Engineers have successfully replaced the maximum of hydrocarbon by pure soybean oil, a renewable natural resource, to create the Zedpur Enviro material. Tests have shown that using more soy in the manufacture of foam greatly reduce its quality. This means that there is no comparable foam quality that it could be greener. On this fact, Zedbed is the only company to manufacture a pressure relief material with soybean oil whose density is 5 lbs. The competitors achieve maximally 3 lbs.
These efforts in research and development enables the company to produce a collection of mattresses and pillows, designed based on pure soybean oil, called Zedbed Nature.
By taking this green making, the Zebed’s objective was not to be a company that produces fully green, it would be a grave mistake to believe that this route is possible in sacrificing the attributes of a good night’s sleep. The aim is rather to make eco-friendly actions that contribute to maintain or improve the environment while remaining focused on the needs of our primary customer; comfort and quality.
Nowadays, Zedbed incorporates eco-friendly products in the manufacture of its various products to increase the possible level of ecology.
A new plant!
In 2009, Zedbed acquired a new factory. The company transfers part of its operations and benefits of redevelopment to implement Lean Manufacturing to improve its productivity by 18%. The company made the choice to stay in the region close to its suppliers and especially with the intention to retain its valuable workforce. This acquisition will increase its production area and warehouse in order to don’t stop its growth.
Furniture Quality Canada
Zedbed products are all marked by the symbol « Furniture Quality Canada ». The symbol identifies products manufactured entirely in Canada and ensures that production of the product meets the standards of strict quality.

Zedbed is a SME active in its community primarily in the areas of health, sport, education and with some community programs through donations and sponsorships. It is important for the company to develop social relationships with the community and engage with significant causes close to his heart. Our contribution allows the developement of people and organisms and in research progress.

· The Maison Carpe Diem, to defend the rights of persons with Alzheimer's and their families, organize and provide support, guidance and relevant services and informing the public awareness, promoting a new model of care intervention and accommodation and encourage and support the psychosocial and medical www.alzmauricie.org
· Graduates of Occupational Therapy 2010 cohort of Laval University in Quebec
· HEC Montreal sudents as part of a work in business, where they could visit our facilities and better understand our management
· Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in offering an internship to a student in business administration and submitting an issue to resolve cases in an interuniversity competition

Production and Supply
Inevitably, production and supply go hand in hand. For over 15 years, we have counted on the best sleep industry partners to ensure a quality finished product and the expectations of our customers. Our suppliers meet high standards of quality and environmental issues, deal with tight delivery times and continuously improve products. To ensure to continue in this direction and to still correspond to our needs, we periodically evaluate each of our suppliers. We inform them of areas for improvement and our satisfaction, as ultimately, their quality will be ours and yours. Zedbed number of suppliers, made less than 50 miles from our factories to limit the transport and adverse environmental consequences that entails.
